Introductory interview - what should I expect?

I have an interview with a small PE firm located across Europe for an internship. The invitation said it's an introductory interview and I was just given one day time to pick a time. It's with a talent acquisition manager, so no people from the fund involved.

What should I expect from this one? Mostly behavioural/fit questions or should I dig a lot deeper into PE technicals?

Introductory calls with HR/talent acquisition folks are largely focused on behavioral and fit questions. Think of the call as a "check the box" exercise to ensure you meet the qualifications of the role. Potential questions you may be asked include:

  • Can you walk me through your resume?
  • Why are you interested in private equity?
  • What about the role interests you?
  • Why this firm?

As a bonus, I would also recommend to do some diligence on their website and regurgitate some of the language they use when discussing their culture or career opportunities. Overall, I wouldn't sweat this call too much - as long as you have a cohesive story formed around your background and interest in the role, I'm sure you'll do great!

As always, feel free to pose any additional thoughts or questions.
