Keeping Up with Deals for PE Interviews

I'm currently a 2nd year analyst at a mm boutique bank. I work in a generalist M&A team and our group typically works on various sectors. I'm on a few deals, one of which is a LMM services business that I was thrown onto mid to late-process after another analyst left to join another firm. Because we're generally really busy and a lean firm, my associate didn't give much of a detailed overview of the deal up until the point when I joined and just told me to flip through the folders and gave me a lot of work to do. I've spent the past couple months doing a ton of grunt work, I've somehow fallen behind on both general and big picture details, which I know is not optimal.

Aside from talking about general admin tasks and description of this business, I feel like I'm struggling to describe this deal in an interview setting. Even basic stuff like how we got to the valuation, what's the rationale for most interested buyers etc. How do I best catch up on general knowledge without making it sound like I have no idea what's going on?
