Lateral first from MM to BB/EB or recruit for PE?

Hello,

I am currently a first year analyst at an MM bank (Stifel, Cowen, Piper), looking to land MM/UMM PE. Should I focus on lateralling to an BB/EB in the upcoming 3-6 months or should I go for MM/UMM PE recruiting.
