For context, I am now in Investment Banking (London) and am considering applying to Private Equity in New York
Have anyone successfully made the move? I heard there are visa complications - how hard is it to get around this?

Your best path is transferring internally - likely requiring you to prove yourself to your current firm for 2+ years, assuming it's an internaitonal bank.
Otherwise marry a US citizen and obtain a marriage-based green card (typically takes 12-24 months from application).
No chance otherwise.
Basically impossible recruiting from banking unless you have citizenship. Will be possible to move internally at a global fund if you're good (i.e. if you're a top performer you have more room to do what you want)
What if you do 2-3 years of IB in London, and then an MBA in the US, can you recruit for US PE directly from the MBA?
