MBB + PE internships to IB - is it possible?

I have a couple consulting internships including MBB, PE interships at decent funds in London, and graduated from MiM at a top business school. I want to stay in finance and as getting a full-time in PE is unlikely, I am thinking to go to IB. I have been applying to off-cycles and full-times for many months and have been called for an interview only once (and I had a referral). Some people even advised me to remove some of my consulting/PE internships to not seem too focused on PE - is it a smart thing to do? And could targetting FSG groups at banks help?
