new city for PE job

Has anyone moved to a new city for a private equity job? By new city I mean somewhere where you literally know nobody. The reason I ask is I typically meet my friends through extracurricular activities (or in classes during college) but I feel like with a PE associate job you would have no time to meet people and build connections.

To those that did it for the amazing pay (and prestige lol) do you regret it? Were you miserably alone during your associate years? Or was the sacrifice worth it and you were able to carve out a social niche for yourself from scratch?
