PE Internship sourcing Exercise?

Feel free to delete if this belongs in the JOB forum

I recently got an email for an internship for a local PE firm, and I am suppose to complete a sourcing exercise on a family Owned Torch Manufacturing company within the area(PAC NW).

I have to find the owners name and contact information, additionally estimates of employees, revenue and EBITDA. While I had no problem with this originally, the bottom of the email states I cannot directly call the company, nor contact the owner.

From what I have read sourcing is all about cold calling? I've looked through the company's website, and have found nothing. Considering do some comps, but this industry is very small

Any Guidance on where to go from here?

See if you can find any info on Hoovers or Manta. Both of these websites have lists of private companies by industry by geographic area. Usually they have estimates for the figures you mentioned, but they aren't always accurate. If you have access to Capital IQ you can run a screen for the type of company you are looking for.

As a last resort, see if there are any industry trade shows that may have lists of companies attending.

Once you have the company you can just google around and use mailtester to figure out the CEO and his or her email.

I would start calling/emailing to set up calls with suppliers and customers to try to get some info on them. Say it's for an academic project and ask 3-5 relevant questions, one of which would include some details about Target Co.
