PE Portfolio Company Corp Dev Exit Opps

Have seen some corp dev jobs at LMM and MM PE backed companies focusing on roll-ups and was wondering how the exit opps for these roles look like. Given the nature of roll-ups you'll be doing a lot of deals but I'd imagine most companies look the same at this size.

Have interviewed for a few of these roles and it varies a lot.  Some PE shops will often drop you into other portcos if you perform well, essentially on a path to become a strategic CFO / VP of Corp Dev type role.  Occasionally will see some folks transition back into PE roles.  A lot of it will vary by your actual experience on the job, which if you're not 100% deal focused, can mean more ops-type work and the chance to transition into strategy roles.  By and large, the higher growth verticals (tech, healthcare, etc.) will have better exit opps than doing corp dev for a trucking biz.

I will preface this by saying that I work in the LMM and we usually don't have corp dev departments and if we do, it's pretty much one person. I haven't seen people leave these roles so unsure of exit opps. I will say that you will definitely be getting some good deal reps and think it would be a good platform to exit to other corp dev jobs and IB. If you perform well and have a good relationship with sponsor, doesn't seem crazy to ask them about it. Otherwise, another PE firm should at least give you a look with that background although many will default to the typically IB Backgrounds.
