PE recruitting from BB IBD regional coverage

Hi all,

Does anyone know if PE recruiting is more difficult if you are doing regional coverage at a BB office which is not in London? I have heard many people say that experience from London is appreciated, but given that we are doing much of the same work and hours as them, is there really that much of a difference?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights regarding PE recruiting from a BB IBD regional coverage office:

  • Regional vs. London Experience: Experience from a London office is generally more appreciated compared to regional offices. This is because London is a major financial hub, and the exposure and networking opportunities there are typically more significant.

  • Recruiting Challenges: Candidates from regional offices often face more challenges in getting noticed by NYC PE firms. For instance, regional candidates might get fewer interview opportunities compared to their counterparts in major financial centers like London or New York.

  • Headhunter Dynamics: Headhunters tend to focus more on candidates from major financial hubs due to the high volume of strong candidates and the fast-paced nature of on-cycle recruiting. This can make it harder for regional candidates to get the same level of attention.

  • Off-Cycle Recruiting: Off-cycle recruiting can be a different story. Regional candidates might have better chances during off-cycle periods when the process is less structured and more flexible.

  • Work Similarities: While the work and hours might be similar between regional offices and London, the perception and prestige associated with London experience can make a difference in the recruiting process.

In summary, while the work might be similar, the location does play a significant role in PE recruiting, with London experience generally being more valued.

Bump. Which one to pick low BB in London vs top BB in continental Europe?
