Private Equity Typical Hours, Career Paths (UK)

Hi all,

Looking for some insight into what hours are like within Private Equity within the UK. Have seen some posts on here, albeit largely US-based, I can't help but notice they are largely all negative around their hours.

Say you did 2 years in banking as a grad and left for PE, what hours can you expect (and how do these change as you progress up the ranks?). Is there a larger disconnect apparent between your actual life & work in PE as opposed to IB, or are you still required to be on call a lot & the allure is just the potential of carry?

And given there are more PE shops across the UK, is it common to move northwards after a stint in London? How much much more fruitful is it to stay in the city & work for one of the bigger MFs as opposed to a smaller PE house in B'ham, Manchester, etc..

And finally, It seems the case, but I wanted to check - do people tend to view PE as the end goal? Would people tend to only exit PE if they cannot move up a rank, or what is the case.

Apologies if I make any mistakes in my assumptions; would love to hear any thoughts.

Thanks!
