PSA: 2024 On Cycle Candidates - Don’t get OfficeHours

For reasons that have already been hashed out elsewhere on this forum, just don’t do it. Since those old threads have fallen off of the trending page, figured it would be helpful to re-circulate this message to the WSO community so incoming AN1s hear the message and don’t succumb to fear mongering tactics.

Funny office hours story that shows how absurd they are.

Friend from my bank took a job at a smaller but still respected MM fund on-cycle.

Office hours blasted out something on social media / email that named the firm and some identifying info - ie “our mentee, EB banker in C&R from a non-target, lands tech PE gig at __ fund”

Everyone just assumed they’d hired two people with similar profiles but then he had a call after accepting his offer and they said he was their only on-cycle offer

Office hours just pretended this kid was their mentee even though he had absolutely 0 contact with them. This firm logo is still on their site

"WOW! Almost that Time of the year, NOW that you can work 9 to 5 PM (instead of 9 to 5 AM hahhaha) it is PERFECT to recruit (recruitment starts soon btw) for PE (not the NBA *pop culture reference no one cares about*), as you can see (function driven by eyesight) all of our spaces are ABSOLUTELY BOOK so don't even TRY to contact us (here's a 250,000 word count essay one why you should give us $7,500 btw)."
