Question on PE Firms

Quick question on PE recruiting / learning about firms. There’s a ton of threads here on exits, especially the age old IB / PE debate. Within that comes the MF vs. MM vs. LGBTMM vs. you get the point.

On a serious note - an answer I see a lot is the dream situation is finding a small firm that’s just starting out, maybe showed signs of early success with their first few raises, and if you can land an opportunity there and ride the wave then that’s the ultimate situation. My question is does anyone know a good place where you can actually find these types of shops? Is there a website out there that you can track fundraising, returns, and other data points to help with locating these opportunities? Or do folks just rely on word of mouth and it’s more of a if you know you know situation. Appreciate the answers in advance!
