As someone who did something very similar, yes it is very doable and it won't be counted against you.

Given you have worked on M&A in the past / in your current role I bet you could study up pretty quick to pass any growth equity / VC modeling test or case study. Unless its  late stage I don't think the diligence is going to be as centered around financial engineering and have a super intense modeling component. Some of the other questions about the portfolio role vs. operational support will be firm dependent. 

My $0.02 overall for questions about operating roles into investor roles is that if you are do impactful work with tangible results in an operating role it can/should make you a better investor.
