Telecom IB to Generalist PE?

Hi all,

I'm about to join a Telecom team in London (EB/BB) and am wondering what could be my exit opportunities? Would headhunters redirect me to Infra PE or would I still have a decent chance for Generalist PE, Private Credit or HF?

Thanks!

Joining a Telecom team in London at an EB/BB can open up a variety of exit opportunities. Based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Infra PE: Given your Telecom focus, headhunters may naturally direct you toward Infrastructure PE roles. Telecom often overlaps with infrastructure investments, making this a logical and common path.

  2. Generalist PE: You still have a decent chance to transition into Generalist PE. London is a market where even Big 4 accountants can land solid PE gigs, so your EB/BB background will be well-regarded. However, your Telecom specialization might require you to demonstrate broader deal experience or transferable skills during the recruitment process.

  3. Private Credit: This is another viable option, as Private Credit funds often value candidates with strong technical skills and sector expertise, which you would gain in Telecom IB.

  4. Hedge Funds (HF): While less common, transitioning to a hedge fund is possible, especially if you can leverage your sector knowledge for equities-based strategies or event-driven funds.

To maximize your chances for Generalist PE or other roles, consider: - Highlighting any deals or experiences that showcase versatility beyond Telecom. - Networking with headhunters like KEA, Walker Hamill, Blackwood, and PER, as they are prominent in London for PE recruiting. - Timing your move strategically, as many professionals leave banks in summer or winter after bonuses are paid.

London's market is flexible, and with the right preparation, you can position yourself for a range of opportunities.
