Top heavy PE firms?
Joining a MM/UMM fund this summer and it seems like the team structure is extremely top heavy - something like 20 MDs, a handful of VP/Principle, and ~20 associates.
Is it just me or is this a ton of MDs given size of the rest of the team? It looks like most of its competitor firms have either fewer MDs or a lot more juniors.
Does a structure like this make promotion to MD harder? Should I expect to work a ton of hours given MD:Associate ratio?
Same situation for me as well. I think it could potentially be due to succession dynamics if certain partners are expected to retire or otherwise roll off.
Otherwise, I’m viewing it as an opportunity to play up more for VP/Principal level responsibilities, which is great for the foreseeable future. Partner is still a while aways for us.
