Transitioning from NYC BB to London PE. Is it possible?

I tried to find an answer to this question using the search tool but nothing came up. Is it possible to recruit for London PE whilst being a BB analyst in the US? How would it work? Has anyone here have any experience with the process?

The logistics would be very hard as London recruiting is not structured in any way so I assume it would involve many trips to London. Not sure how you'd fit that into your analyst schedule. Logistics aside, most funds require knowledge of a european languages (native fluency is often required) and Visa sponsorship would be an issue if you're not a EU citizen.

Yes, possible. Some firms (eg, Advent) will come out to NYC to interview, or just combine their processes (or both).

Only downside is that you won't be on the radar of the UK-based recruiters, so you'll have to reach out proactively. London PE spots are filled on a much more ad-hoc basis even at the megafunds, so timing will be a but more variable.

Thank you for both responses above. I should've clarified; I'm not a US citizen and I hold a EU passport, which is why the move to London is be appealing to me (I'm also bilingual and conversant in two more euro languages). Would London PE be something I could bring up to the "traditional megafund headhunters" when the official process starts in NYC? I have seen that most, if not all of the american PE firms have an office in London, and I wonder whether Glocap and firms like that would be helpful in connecting me with London desks.

Should not be hard. As previous poster said, Advent London runs a process for NYC analysts - would assume others do as well. Definitely tell the HHs your preference. If those don't work out, ask your BB for an internal transfer to London and recruit from there. Either way, should not be hard if you're committed to doing London PE.

def possible - first of all reach out to all London based headhunters and then let the us ones know too. One of our guys did this and was placed by one of the nyc firms from an nyc bb (same as you EU passport)

Thank you again Boston and GBB_19NHS. Are there any names for London-based headhunters you would recommend? Any headhunters that handle MF for both NYC and London? Most of the names I've heard and googled do not seem to have a London presence. Thanks again everyone.
