Turned down offer

Was interviewing for a NY-based secondaries fund over the past 2 months. It was a crap process - did 4 rounds, a case study (VP level job), and a modeling test (lol). Met with the manager partner twice and every team member.

At the end of the fourth round I sent a thank you note to the managing partner as well as HR. HR told me I would hear back either way by the end of the week. Never heard from them - 4 weeks go by...nothing.

I ran into the managing partner at a networkijg event last week and he acted like nothing happened and asked if I'd like to join the firm. I told him I wasn't interested and mentioned how I never heard back - he was pretty surprised but I held firm.

Sounds like either the recruiting wasn't run well, they got busy or you weren't a top contender. All of those are annoying. But dude, how close do you think the Managing Partner really is to any recruiting process? Doubt he gives a shit.

What's cool is that he remembered you and literally offered you a job. In 99% of cases that's no bullshit. But instead you wanted to prove what? That their recruiting function isn't great? Join the fucking club. You really showed him!!
