UK Masters for IB/PE

I am looking to some UK Masters programs to be able to get a FT offer afterwards. I got MBB, Big4 and Mastercard advisors internships and an engineering degree. What programs have the best placements. I know about LBS MFA and LSE Mfin, Imperial but I know a lot of  graduates of LSE Mfin and Imp Mfin who are unemployed.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s a breakdown of UK Masters programs for IB/PE placements:

Top Tier Programs (Tier 1)

  1. LBS MFA (Master in Financial Analysis)

    • Placement: Stellar placement across the finance spectrum, including IB and PE.
    • Requirements: High 2.1 (65+), GMAT > 680, and work experience is highly valued.
    • Advantages: Strong networking opportunities with MBAs, impressive cohort quality, and benefits from LBS's institutional strength.
    • Consideration: While relatively new, the program has quickly gained recognition and is on par with LSE MSc Finance and Oxford MFE.
  2. LSE MSc Finance

    • Placement: Amazing placement in IB and sometimes PE.
    • Requirements: 1st class degree, GMAT optional but >700 is recommended, work experience is a bonus.
    • Advantages: Strong brand name, visibility in the finance industry, and a large alumni network.
    • Consideration: Slightly less academic than Oxford MFE but highly regarded for IB roles.
  3. Oxford MFE (Master in Financial Economics)

    • Placement: Excellent placement in IB, consulting, and occasionally PE.
    • Requirements: GMAT > 720, 1st class degree or equivalent, with little focus on work experience.
    • Advantages: Highly academic program with strong international recognition.

Almost Top Tier (Tier 1.5)

  1. HEC Paris MiF

    • Placement: Great placement in IB and PE, especially in France and London.
    • Advantages: Strong reputation in Europe, particularly for MBB and finance roles.
  2. Bocconi MSc Finance

    • Placement: Similar to HEC Paris but focused on Italy and London.
  3. LSE MSc Accounting & Finance

    • Placement: Strong placement in IB, though slightly less competitive than the MSc Finance.

Other Notable Programs (Tier 2)

  1. Imperial MSc Finance

    • Placement: Good placement in IB, though not as strong as LSE or LBS.
    • Consideration: Less theoretical and academic, which some students prefer.
  2. Warwick MSc Finance

    • Placement: Solid placement for Europeans with work experience, but internationals may struggle.
  3. LBS MiM (Master in Management)

    • Placement: Similar to LSE MiM, career-focused, and allows for summer internships leading to FT roles.

Key Takeaways

  • LBS MFA, LSE MSc Finance, and Oxford MFE are the top choices for IB/PE placement in the UK.
  • Programs like Imperial MSc Finance and Warwick MSc Finance are good but may not guarantee placement, especially for internationals.
  • Your strong internship background (MBB, Big4, Mastercard Advisors) and engineering degree will make you competitive for these programs, especially if you meet the GMAT and academic requirements.

If you’re aiming for the best placement opportunities, prioritize LBS MFA, LSE MSc Finance, or Oxford MFE.

You did not mention oxford mfe or Cambridge but other than those, there's not much out there. It's a tough market so yes unfortunately even LSE/LBS grads are struggling. Many of my friends ended in audit/assurance. You can try EU degrees which place well in UK and EU to aim broader (hec bocconi escp st gall sse....)

You have a strong profile (STEM degree + good internships) so you'll have a good shot at most EBs/BBs in London with a target Master (LSE, Imperial, LBS). I'd say the issue in this market is more for guys entering those Masters without any internships under their belt. All my friends at these target Masters finally ended up in top seats (but they all had prior experience - audit / corp fin etc.)
