I feel like in banking it's a safe ride from Analyst to Senior VP/Director. Although many people leave after 2-3 years, it's not exactly difficult for someone to grind it to >= mid-level. How about PE though? Also, I believe most places start giving carry at senior associate or at least VP level? Sounds like a sweet deal.

Doable if you can put up with it, less true for MF/UMM where there are just fewer seats by virtue of being more established. But UMM/MM/LMM it should be more doable with generally being easier the smaller fund you go. Principal is where people can hit a wall. Cyclical element to this too where yes over the last decade both IB and PE have needed more bodies to support growth. Maybe that becomes less true in the go forward.
