Are virtual interviews a make or break?

I reached out to a vp at a brokerage firm over linkedin (who works for a different office than the one I was applying to) and ended up having a great conversation. I applied for a summer analyst position and within one day I was already passed through to the next round which consisted of aptitude test and virtual interview. I killed the aptitude test and screwed up an answer for the virtual interview. I have not heard anything in over 3 weeks so I have two questions:

  1. How heavily are virtual interviews weighted?
  2. How long do interview processes for these types of summer internships take?

(Very new to interviewing and the job search process so any insight is appreciated.)

Thanks in advance.

In this day and age, I'd consider the two formats (virtual and in person) to be the same in terms of importance. The reality of the situation is that, whatever "mistake" you made in the interview probably isn't as bad as you're making it in your mind. Reflecting back, in all of my interviews I was hyper critical about so many immaterial moments. Unless the mistake was blatantly horrible, you're probably just over thinking it. Good luck with the interviews!

Edit: Not really relevant if you’re referring to prerecorded virtual interviews. Those are just cringe to begin with.
