GP vs LP

Debating to switch from GP/operator to LP/ investment manager side. The caveat is that I’m slowly graduating from the grunt work to the fun part of my current role. Is it worth trading the progress at my current role (Retail) to move to the LP side and learn Office from scratch? Retail is messier but with more potential from my biased view.

I want to build enough credit at wherever I’ll be in 5 years to be a decent parent. Trading 2 years of credibility seems like an expensive cost from this perspective. The counter argument is lifestyle on the retail operator side is worse than office investment management side due to the nature of the assets.
