How much can you make in agency underwriting?
How much can you make in agency underwriting past the analyst/associate years, when you become the actual underwriter on the deals? (4-10+ years) Thinking of companies like Berkadia/W&D etc. Thanks!

Assuming it’s an active shop ~200k and then it’s on you to turn client facing or middle management
Thanks! Sounds like $200k is more/less the ceiling at the UW/VP level, then I would assume a significant increase if promoted to DCU/CU.
How about screening assuming similar experience/shop/deal flow? Know both screening and underwriting will make less than production but trying to figure out long term prospects and upside for screening vs underwriting.
From my understanding, screening works directly with originations and sizes deals whereas underwriting takes deals from the initial application through closing. At the analyst/associate level for prescreen you have potential to get higher bonuses in part because you are working more with borrowers and the originators. This is at least what I experienced at a prior firm.
I’ve heard a pretty big range on the screening side in regards to comp and hours. Interested to hear what others have to say but I think its more idiosyncratic to the shop. Generally what I’ve gathered is screening’s lower base than underwriting but higher all in pay during good years. Also can depend on if you move to a screening manager role or a client facing deal execution role, some will salary you with bonus and others will dictate pay off a cut of each deal closed
