Interviewing while having a current job

So I have been looking at options to leave my current job and about 2 weeks ago I called in "sick" to go to other interviews and the company that I interviewed at wants me to come in again. I recently had to take another day off unrelated to the interview.

Is it weird for me to take another day off to interview? What should i say to my current company? What should i say to the prospective company? Keep in mind that both companies are boutique firms and are flexible. What is the best course of action?

I mean, you've done it right... call out sick and interview. Nothing more to say than that.

Do you need the entire day? A "doctor's appointment" can take a few hours, especially if it's a physical and you're getting blood work...

Doctors appointment, long lunch, sick, traffic or taking Friday off (long weekend somewhere), good friend is in town for work for the day so grabbing lunch. Get creative and make it believable. Everyone has a life outside of work and will empathize. Also, get work done in advance, so when you day say you're taking a long lunch because of your friend in town, and you have your things in order it will be less of an issue.

"yayaa" It’s not better to be transparent about your current situation?

No.

No. No. No.

Good God, no.

The "talk about leaving" comes when you tell them you are leaving.

"yayaa" But if you’re applying to other jobs, that means you want to leave.
Not always. It could be a scenario where an experienced professional is seeing what else is out there or trying to determine compensation potential.
"yayaa" When does the talk come about leaving?
Once you accept the other offer.

In theory, yes. But risk (passed promotions, lower compensation or bonus, or chance of employment termination) is not worth the reward (?) of your employer knowing that you want to leave.

DMV suggestion reminds me of something I actually went through that would be a perfect alibi.

My sister moved back to where I live from SF/NYC/Boston transit oriented city and let her license lapse and I had to take her to the dmv to get her license reinstated. We actually have taken 2 trips there and something would be amiss with paperwork. All this effort for nothing.

You could probably use this about 3 times. Come to think of it you could stretch this more; ride to social security office to get replacement card, get passport photo taken, me birth certificate, etc. to get the required paperwork corralled.
