Investment Sales: Going from midwestern small market to big market. what is the smoothest path?

Currently, I am working investment sales in small market in the midwest. I am looking to move to larger market in BOS/CHI/NYC. I am wondering what the person I am interviewing with (JLL, CBRE, Newmark) will except me to know regarding modeling and general CRE financial measures.
