Job Title
I work for a family office primarily as an AM on their $500M real estate portfolio. Although my job is about 70-80% AM work, I do support acquisitions about 20-30% of my time. I'm not leading the process by any means, but we've got a fairly lean team so when we're working on a deal, I have to help out with uw, research, help prepare loan docs, etc.
I'm not sure if this is standard and most interviewers will assume this is part of my job or if I need to call it out on my resume somehow. I'd love to hear what others think.
Thanks!
Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's important to highlight your contributions to acquisitions on your resume, even if it's not the primary focus of your role. While interviewers might assume some involvement in acquisitions due to the nature of your position, explicitly calling it out can help differentiate you and showcase your versatility. Here's how you can approach it:
Resume Bullet Points: Include specific accomplishments or responsibilities related to acquisitions under your current role. For example:
Balance the Focus: Since your role is predominantly asset management (AM), ensure the majority of your resume reflects your AM expertise. However, dedicating a few bullet points to acquisitions will demonstrate your broader skill set.
Tailor for the Role: If you're applying for a position that leans more toward acquisitions, you can adjust the emphasis on your resume to highlight your 20-30% involvement in acquisitions more prominently.
Storytelling in Interviews: Be prepared to discuss your acquisitions experience in detail during interviews. Share specific examples of deals you worked on, your contributions, and the outcomes.
By clearly articulating your involvement in acquisitions, you'll position yourself as a well-rounded candidate with both AM and acquisitions experience, which can be a valuable asset in the real estate industry.
