They will give you a laptop. Yes the 6 and 7 will be sticky, but its free.

If its for your personal use, 100% solid state drive (no HDD). 8+ GB ram minimum. Don't have a specific suggestion - Dell ThinkPads are great but pricier.

+1 that they’ll give you one, especially at a big shop. For personal use, I’d go ThinkPad over a Dell. My current work laptop is a $6k Dell that’s a powerhouse but I always feel like I’m gonna break it, but my personal ThinkPad is powerful and a tank - they also make 16” ones with a separate number pad so you don’t have to size up to a 17”.

I just got a Lenovo X1 Carbon ThinkPad. It was fairly expensive, but it is lightweight and well specked. Dell XPS was my runner up.

Thinkpad is the standard for good reason. Slightly pricier, but bang for buck is great. I personally use the Lenovo V15 G3, the link here has a lot of specs options and often has coupons/deals.

Don't @ me

Would go x1 carbon (am pretty harsh on the laptops and this has taken a beating and held up good) or a 15 in surface pro (bigger screen)

Have an older xps 13 which has been ok at times but hasn't held up well, is slow, lot of problems after like a year etc

If a company is making you buy your own laptop, I would be highly concerned about said company.

Anyhow, the answer has been MBP for personal use or Lenovo for work for 10-15 years at this point.
