Marcus and Millichap Financial Analyst Role Questions
Hi Everyone,
Long-time lurker, first time poster here. I'm currently an intern at one of the large brokerages (CBRE/JLL/CW) on an appraisals team. I'm graduating from college in August, and I've been looking for and applying to entry level roles mainly hoping to move into IS and D/E brokerage at the analyst level.
I came across a job listing for a Financial Analyst for an M&M Investment Sales team that I now have an interview set up for. I know M&M does not have the best reputation in the industry and is known to be a sweatshop of cold-calling, but I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a Financial Analyst role. Specifically,
1) Assuming this role is not the usual cold-calling 100% commission job, would the experience be beneficial and help lateral to a larger brokerage (CBRE/JLL/CW) IS team in a year or so?
2) Does simply having Marcus and Millichap on your resume look bad to future employers and industry professionals?
3) What do you think is necessary to clarify in the interview that would make you consider this role?
Thanks for any help!
It's really all team dependent, You want to be on a team that does large deals, so ask them what team you'd be joining, and find out about recent deals.
M & M does have the IPA division which is a legit institutional platform, hopefully it's with them.
I would really try and recruit at a better brokerage firm if you can - M&M has a pretty poor reputation. I've personally had bad experiences with them and would not entrust them to sell any of our properties.
Tell the recruiters at Eastdil / JLL / CBRE that you're interviewing at other brokerage firms but prefer their platforms.
M&M is fine. Sure they have a reputation but so do many other brokers/teams/shops. Just make sure the people you will work with aren't scumbags. M&M lands some pretty quality listings through their IPA arm. I would investigate the teams track record and then you should be able to get a feel for, if there legit or not.
What everyone said. Totally team dependent, no cold calling is likely with a title financial analyst.
