MIT Commercial Real Estate Analysis and Investment
Wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge about the 6 week course offered through MIT on Commercial Real Estate Analysis and Investment? Seemed like a very well run course, although expensive, but not in comparison to some others and considering the brand name. I am an incoming junior looking to pursue a career in real estate (development, PE, etc.) I am currently interning at a real estate development company which is what drew my interest initially and my school does not offer a major or minor in real estate, so I wondered if anyone had input on if this program would be beneficial from my point of view as opposed to someone who's already graduated/worked for some time?
Here's the link for reference:
I would like to think it will only help you when looking for FT roles. Can be another point to talk about on your resume and shows you are serious about real estate. How much is this course?
2500, like I said, it's expensive but not that far off comparatively with college credits or other programs
I would say do it. I am an undergrad and went to UCLA Extension for Real Estate Development while concurrently going to my undergrad school. It has been immensely helpful and definitely impressed interviewers and people i meet while networking. Showing your passion for real estate seems to work very well (interning is great. I’m a full time residential broker myself). Over 9 courses, I’ve dropped about $7,500 (including textbooks) on it. So $2,500 sounds like a bargain to me.
Have you checked out BU's Real Estate Finance Program? Their courses are much cheaper. With that savings, you can take an Argus or BIWS class or something, too.
I looked into it a bit , but it's 700 per class and I think you had to complete 6 classes to complete the program. I ended up doing the one through MIT. I'll let you know how it goes, thanks
Curious to know if anyone has taken or has insight on this course?
I ended up doing the course. I'll let you know how it is once I complete it. I know they are opening another in the fall if you are interested
Damn, maybe I should just do this instead of a full blown MSRE. Cornell also has a certificate program in RE. Let us know what you think of the content if you can.
I am going into my 5th week of the course and it has been great. If you plan on doing the course when it starts again in a couple of weeks, shoot me a message and I will get you some good info
can you please post some info here for everyone? would be much appreciated!
Can you shoot me a PM i'm starting this on Monday. TIA
a certificate is no replacement for a a full blown msre
I agree. I just got into the Georgetown program, so I'm gonna go that rout.
jimlahey100 any update on this program? Any insight from anyone else who has taken it?
Curious to know as well.
Registration for the next installment ends August 28, can we get an update on this before then? Whats it like/what you liked/didn't like/was it beneficial/etc. I'm seriously considering taking this and would love a little more info about it.
Sorry to everyone has tried to reach out in regards to the program. I have been incredibly busy after returning to school and seeking internship options for next summer. I hope you have signed up for the course, but if not, I am sure they will have another session. The course beyond exceeded my expectations. Beyond what I learned, the online structure of the program was great. It did not feel like an online course at all as it was incredibly interactive and professors were there to answer any questions in a short amount of time. I have been able to leverage my experience into plenty of interviews and it makes a great talking point and shows how passionate you are for real estate. Message me if you have any other questions
For anyone interested in online RE courses, steer clear of Cornell's e-hotel classes, they're like $770 each and taught by a retard and the material is insulting to a joke. You can learn more simply by reading online white papers(I took a class in rate fencing and rev mgmt for hotels) and the material is elementary at best. But then again Cornell's school for Hotel is not much to be said for either...
Hi There is recent discount offered for Hotel Investment and Asset Management. Do you think if its worth it after discount? You mentioned the stuff they teach can be learned by reading white paper. Any recommendations?

Wanted to know if anyone has taken the 6-week course at MIT or has heard anything about it in terms of the content they are teaching you, how it looks on a resume, and if you can network with the other students.
