I was curious as to what firms do in general to drum up new business? More from a principal perspective. Also what are investors relations exit ops?

Re: Exit Opps ... Don't know anyone who came from IR who's now in an investment type role. IR people tend to stay in IR/BusDev. You will not see an Investor Relations analyst lateral to the investments team. You should only be in IR if you enjoy that type of work and see yourself doing it long term.
I had to the chance to be an IR analyst at Goldman (GSAM) and turned it down because fellow WSO monkeys explained what I did above. Wasn't worth it given my goals.
