RE DCM Associate with no CRE experience - How to make it happen?

Sup ya'll,

There's an a DCM Associate role with one of the biggest brokers in my city and i'm not sure how to get this thing without any prior CRE experience. I have the capital markets component down and I understand CRE like the back of my hand from my own diligence in the industry but I have no formal experience in CRE to showcase this.

Any ideas on how to stand out and overcome the CRE bullet?

how is it possible that you understand CRE like the back of your hand if you don't have experience? do you own/manage your own properties? does your family have a RE business? it's impossible to truly grasp CRE until you've done it. my suggestions would be 1) go for an entry level role with a lower tier firm and work your way up to a top tier firm after a couple years, or 2) get a MSRE/MBA - RE - you will probably still end up in an entry level role despite MSRE, but it could instantly get you to a top tier firm if you play your cards right. those are the only options. no other way around it.
