Reaching out to team's head after third round

Hey everyone, I just got off the phone with an Associate from a top tier firm in one of the major east coast markets as a third round interview with the firm. She said she is interviewing other candidates for the one internship position open this summer. I think it went well and I asked good technical questions about the asset class they're in and she said I asked great questions, seemed very driven and focused on what I want. She name dropped the Executive MD who I'd be interviewing with if I move on to the fourth round. Since they're still having to interview other candidates for the third round this week, should I message the MD on LinkedIn (already was connected with him) and say "just talked with your Associate, excited about this potential opportunity and I look forward to speaking you with in the near future, etc" in order to stand out and show I'm interested/not afraid to reach out because don't brokers like those qualities of taking action?

I obviously really want this position and still am competing with other people for this one spot and want to do whatever it takes to keep their attention. Any ideas that can be bounced off would be greatly appreciated

My gut reaction is this sounds too aggressive and sort of like "going around" the associate you just spoke with it. Seems like the best way to get referenced to this person would be by recommendation of the associate that just interviewed you. I.e. "this is one of my finalists" or however it comes up.

Brokers of the forum may have other toughs, but I would not recommend this move for a buy side firm. I would just follow up quickly with the associate and others you interviewed with.

Hmmm...I don't know on this one. If this is for an internship with a brokerage that has four rounds of interviews, it seems so formal and rigid. Two rounds of interviews should do it.

I'll agree with you in your thinking that brokers really like the initiative when you reach out showing your interest. A lot really like those go-getter competitive types. My only fear with reaching out before having received an official fourth round invite is that it could come off as "annoying" or too pushy for them. It could be a good risk or a bad one.

I'll take it as a good sign though that the associate gave you details about the next interview without you asking.
