REIT Analyst Interview Guidance

Hi All,

I have a upcoming interview with a REIT for an analyst level position within the capital markets group. I am meeting with a couple senior level executives and the head of the group. After meeting the team I will also have to complete an hour modeling test.

I have no experience in real estate but have a background in corporate finance. I am trying to get up to speed on real estate terminology but have no idea what they will be asking or what the modeling test will cover.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks, captspaulding

The capital markets team is likely going to be involved primarily with financing the enterprise or the individual projects. Depending on the firm you could be involved in secondary equity offerings, bond offerings, working with debt brokers, getting CMBS debt, life company debt, bank debt, or GSE debt.

Try to learn about the differences between these types of financing and when one would be used vs another.
