Steps needed for path to Founder

I know I want to start my own real estate firm- that part is known. I have the drive, entrepreneurial spirit, and risk tolerance to make it happen. Are there any areas I should try and learn about/gain experience in to make this happen? I'm stuck between pursuing a regular job for a few years (whether that be IB, general finance, real estate) and going independent, or just working as a broker/flipper after college and working up from there.

I'm looking to get into brokerage and development, but am open to learning as much as I can about other areas (acquisitions, property management, financing, etc.)
