Switching Roles at Same Company

I'm currently at one of these firms (CB, Berkadia, W&D, Newmark) as a D/E analyst in my first year and its been just less than a year. At this point I'm contemplating if I really like debt and see myself long-term doing this, which is tough because I had the choice to go on the IS side but chose this. Here's the situation, there are other teams in my office that need analyst support on the sales side. How would I approach discussing this with my current MD if I wanted to switch. Can anyone who has done this shed some light on how this process went and if it was rubbed the wrong way with the team you are on switching over. If anyone has just general feedback on how I should go about this that would be appreciated as well.

People at my company have switched to IS at other shops but not at the same company. Want to hear some thoughts/opinions.
