LinkedIn Job description

l'm updating my LinkedIn as a student and was wondering how detailed I should be with my experience section. Should I just list the title and company, or should I include descriptions similar to my resume? Also, is it worth using the Skills section? Thanks!

When updating your LinkedIn as a student, here's what you should focus on:

  1. Experience Section:

    • Include titles, companies, and concise descriptions of your roles. While it doesn't need to be as detailed as your resume, you should highlight key achievements and responsibilities. Think of it as a snapshot of your resume that grabs attention.
    • Use bullet points or short paragraphs to make it easy to read. Focus on quantifiable results or specific skills you developed.
  2. Skills Section:

    • Absolutely worth using! The Skills section is a great way to showcase your expertise and make your profile more searchable. Include relevant skills like financial modeling, Excel, or Bloomberg if you're targeting finance roles.
    • Prioritize skills that align with your career goals and the roles you're applying for.
  3. Additional Tips:

    • Add an Activities and Interests section if applicable. Highlight unique extracurriculars or interests that make you stand out (e.g., case competitions, leadership roles, or specific hobbies like skiing or running).
    • Avoid generic terms like "hard-working" or "goal-oriented." Let your experiences and skills demonstrate those qualities.

By keeping your LinkedIn profile professional yet engaging, you'll make a strong impression on recruiters and connections.
