Applying as a couple

My wife and I are applying to business school for 2022 matriculation. How do we start the conversation with adcoms that we are applying together. It's not make or break but we'd like to be in the same spot. I've heard there are "joint applications" to varying degrees of official / unofficial but there's sparse information online. Any color is helpful. Thanks, will SB good answers to show appreciation.

Officially when a married couple applies in the same cycle, each one must qualify individually and schools won't consider or evaluate them together.  At the same time I don't think admissions committees, especially if they work at schools where their program is the only show in town, completely ignore the fact that two applicants are married.

During my 10 years reviewing applications at Duke Fuqua, I saw a number of couples apply. I have also advised clients who are applying with partners. Each candidate must be able to get in on their own profile. Some schools may be more forgiving of one partner if they really want the other. I don't think that you need to identify yourself to adcom as a couple. On some applications you will be asked if you are applying with a partner/spouse/significant other.

Your challenge will be to identify schools that offer the resources for both of you to acheive your post-MBA goals. Stratus is currently working with two sets of 'couples' applying to MBA programs. Feel free to reach out to discuss your profiles.
