B-School Legacy Clarification

When B-Schools consider legacy status, did your parent or whoever have to be an alumnus of the business school specifically? That is, rather than an alumnus of another department or school within the university? Does it vary from university to university? My parents both attended graduate school at a university with a top 5 b-school.

valuationGURUI think it usually just means alum of the university, not particular school within uni. As far as I know.

What he said. Since this question has been raised, I'll extend it.

Does anyone think/know that if my dad worked for and was a teacher at NYU Stern for a good amount of time if this will help for when I apply. Other than my dad using internal contacts he may have, would it be okay to list on the app when that time comes?

Here to learn and hopefully pass on some knowledge as well. SB if I helped.

No reason not to include it. OK, forget the double negative -- yes, of course include it! It tells the admissions committee you know something about the school, it's culture, and yes, the quality of the faculty.

Betsy Massar Come see me at my Q&A thread http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/b-school-qa-w-betsy-massar-of-master-admissions Ask away!

Conversely, I was led to understand that if your parents went only to grad school somewhere, they don't specifically consider them an alumni for the purposes of legacy. Anyone know this to be true or false?
