Can I go for CPA with a BS in Finance?
So my school (St. John's University -NYC) offers a 5 year program where I can get a BS in finance and MS in accounting. I tried to instead get a BS in accounting but I would be way behind in my coursework so I'm considering on sticking with finance. My question is that if at the end I decide to just get a BS in finance, will I still be able to sit for the CPA exam?
You will likely have to take additional classes to fulfill your education requirements. You need a minimum of 120+ semester hours for NY, but it's usually 150+ semester hours with certain coursework that require a minimum amount of credits. Some of these are specifically accounting and auditing.
Yes. There are a fair number of places that will allow you to get a masters of accounting to be CPA-eligible without getting a BS in Accounting.
So would I still have a chance of working at a Big 4 firm if I stick with this route and become a CPA?
