Can I leverage a Masters in economics or maths to get into HF/AM/ER.

Freshman(eco+math (will be completing CFA) Indian ) targeting HF/AM in US/UK. Target to get into a top MFIN/MFE (columbia,MIT,oxford,UCB) but keeping a Masters in math or eco as 2nd option (Columbia MFE /MFMath /masters in math/master in eco) . Can I leverage an eco or math master to get a HF role out of undergard . I know the best bet would be MFE/MFIn but can I keep these options open. If I get into Columbia masters in eco can i get a HF/AM role from there.
