I wanted to gain a better understanding of the post MBA consulting scene in Canada. Which MBA programs would allow me to break into the top 3 Strategy firms? Based on my initial research, it seems that Ivey, Rotman, and Queens seem to be the most "target". Also since employment reports don't really give great detail into the # of students going to each firm, I am uncertain about whether its worth it to attend an MBA in Canada or whether I should apply to the U.S schools that I am interested in. Lastly, does attending a 1 yr MBA at say Queens or Ivey pose challenges for a career switcher from accounting/ finance background in comparison to a traditional 2 year program? Thanks in advance for any insight!
Most of the incoming MBA's are from top US schools, but the top Canadian MBA's can still get interviews and make up a portion of the class (assuming you're interested in Toronto). Doing a LinkedIn search by school may help you give a sense of the overall competitiveness, but if you can get into a good American school you're definitely at an advantage.
Yea ideally if I can get into T15 school in the US, that would be the preferred path. I will see if a linkedin search can give me a better sense of what to expect. Thanks for your help.
Rotman placed 9 at MBB last year. I can't speak to the numbers at other schools.
Do you have any insight into whether these people mostly all had pre-mba consulting experience or whether there were some career switchers who were able to break in? Also is this 9 for FT offers or including summer internship? Lastly would you be ablecomment on how Rotman's career services are? Thanks!
I don't believe that they had pre-mba consulting experience. They were all career switchers. 9 FT offers.
The career services are good. You get as much as you put into it. I had a good experience. Very helpful, knowledgeable and well connected.
What do say for schools such as Emory, Tepper, UNC? Still would help to land MBB in Canada?
