Certificate in Investment Banking
Does anyone think this certificate program is of any value? I have (or soon will have) a psychology degree with good enough grades to get into B-school later on, but just want this certificate if it helps me get a job until then. I have a phone interview for an analyst position, but I don't expect to get the job so this is a backup plan. The interview has been postponed two weeks in a row (by them). My thinking was that since I am not a finance major, it would fill me in on a lot of things that I would want to know anyways. If anyone has heard of this program or has any opinions please share.

ive done the SCPS program but for risk management and did it more so as a GPA booster from undergrad for applying to b school -- its not going to be like OMG YOU WENT INTO THIS PROGRAM AND U CAN GET A JOB! unless you have like your undergrad from a HYP or something... then itll just show you have the interest in the area.. but yeah, if you dont know anything about finance then why do you want to do banking if you dont know what it entails? id say focus on learning about that in your off time
I don't expect it to be a huge deal if I get this but rather just a small boost which is all I need. It is not the case that I don't know anything about finance, but I would expect finance majors know a certain amount more than I do. It would hopefully prevent me from being overlooked for not having a finance degree.
where did you go for undergrad? it might help a little or at least show the interest in finance..
I am working on my last semester of my undergrad at the University of Toronto. I think it is the best school we have here in Canada. I don't think it is as prestigious as some schools in the US, but the name of the school should hold some weight still. I have a 3.8 GPA, but I am sure there are finance majors out there with just as good or better. That is why I wanted to do some sort of extra course or anything I could.
It'll help you in the sense that when someone looks at your rez and you're a psychology major they'll thing WTF, then when they see NYU continuing ed IB certificate, they'll at least see a demonstrated interest/committment to getting into the industry. That being said... its very difficult to break into this industry having already graduated with no prior experience.
msf at a good school might be better use of your cash
Certificate program is probably like 1500-3500, an MSF is likely $10-15 how is that a better use of his cash? Especially if he/she is trying to get into banking? or a good business school?
msf is probably more. because youre not going to get a career boost out of it, he said he has no finance experience and this cert isnt going to help him there nevermind has he said if hes from a target with that psych degree or what

No finance experience. I applied for an intern position for investment banking and went to the job information session at my school. I talked to a few of the people who work there who said that I wasn't eligible because I am graduating. Now I have to apply full-time and compete with finance students, some of whom have done the intern programs which I can no longer do. One of the options I am considering is going back and doing a second undergrad degree and trying to get some experience in the summers but is that really the answer? If there is a way to get in and then later on I can do my MBA, that would be much better. I want to make sure I do everything I can before I commit to a second undergrad. If this certificate would work than I would rather do that than another undergrad.
