Do I have a shot at Columbia B-School
Hey Guys,
Was wondering if I could get a few opinions on my current B-school profile. Would like to develop an understading of my odds of getting into Columbia as they stand now.
Undergrad:
GPA: 3.95 Major: Accounting School: State School
President of Fraternity VP Mentoring Program Recepient of most pretigous accounting award at school
Work Experience: 2 years IB analyst Elite Middle Market College Young Alumni Board
GMAT: 720
Thanks
You're a strong candidate. Hard to quantify, but you'd be competitive. Might need an extra year or two of work though as you're a bit green.
Id think Wharton is doable too
Not to derail your thread. But, do multiple applications to a school look good? As in, if I apply for admission to Booth for '14, don't get in, and then apply for '15 is that allowed/looked upon favorably?
Bschool these days are winding down the number of finance professionals. I would say your chances are ok, but not great. Remember you are competing against the shrunken accepted pool that holds other finance people
If these chances are only "ok" then this seriously scares me. Why just ok? because he didn't go to an ivy? He had a 3.95, has EC's, 700+ GMAT, and is likely at a very reputable firm. honestly what else can he do..??? go back in time and get into an ivy?
The guy you're asking already answered this. Did you just miss it? The issue is that he's in investment banking and only has two years of experience.
You check all the boxes for CBS in my opinion. Very hard to say without a more complete picture but I think you probably have at least a 50/50 shot, better if you apply early decision.
Thanks for the comments everyone. Does anyone have recommendations regarding what else I can do to put me over the edge? Banking hours don't exactly lend itself to the extracurricular activity. Currently thinking about taking the CFA level 1. I am slightly worried about my GMAT being a little too low.
GMAT is fine. Work on career progression. Leave IBD.
Don't do PE though. If you really want to change the game , work at a non-profit in a shithole country for 1.5 years. Then , HBS might be in play as well
