Emory B-School (Goizeuta) Prestige?

Hey guys. I will be attending Emory University next year, and am strongly considering the undergrad business school, Goizeuta, for junior and senior year (it's a 2 year school). I'm wondering how "prestigious" the b-school is - how reputable is it on Wall-Street and in I-Banking firms? Thank you.

Prestigious compared to what? It isn't Wharton or even Stern, but it is a great school that places pretty well in various industries. You'll have a great time there.

Ok I just found something out and I'm going to go on a little tantrum for a second.

I just found out a guy who graduated last year as a journalism/bus comm major from an ACC school in NC got a job with Goldman Sachs. Journalism and bus comm. Really? What does that entail? How to encode and decode a message in the conversation process? Complete and utter BS.

Meanwhile the rest of us are fighting for mid-level IB jobs as finance majors, you know, relevant to what we want to do (or so I thought).

My suggestion is that you major is theatre. It seems like an easy major that can give you a high GPA and since IB's are now into the "we'll take anyone from any major" mode, you can capitalize on that.

Don't be a cry baby.

LeveragedFiendHeard it's a good school. Network like crazy.

Brooksbrotha, why do you think major has anything to do with competency in IB? Common sense, just because you take a class/do a major/go to an elite school does not mean that you are entitled to a good job.

I just think that GS should take a 3.5/finance major from a non-target over a 4.0 journalism major at a non-target.

  1. Not all non-targets are created equal.

  2. I don't think studying finance gives you any leg up over other majors, given that you are competent and know your basics. I mean that's what training is for right? Also, using your logic, all finance majors at Wharton should be taken before all the other target school students since no one else would be finance majors.

Emory is one of the best schools in the south and is located in one of America’s largest cities. I don’t know how it places on Wall Street but you should be able to get a banking or finance job in Atlanta or Charlotte. It has a top 25 MBA program. I’m sure there are loads of Emory undergrad and MBA alum in Atlanta.
