GMAT scaled scoring?

So, I took my first computerized practice GMAT from the free software package I downloaded from mba.com.

I got a 50 on Quant and a 41 on Verbal; these appear to be out of 60. At first I thought I had a lot of work to do, but then I saw the total score: 750, which hovers around the 99th percentile. I saw that and got a little confused: is the software package giving unnecessarily optimistic scaled scores? I mean, if I've learned anything from tests that are out of 800, it's that 750 is a pretty good score, but 41/60 and 50/60 don't seem that great at all.
