GMAT verbal improvement?

Hello Monkeys,

I'm still a few years from applying to business school, and wont be taking the GMAT until some time in late 2012 (I have some other things to take care of before then).

I don't plan on beginning to study until a few months before the exam, but I'm a little concerned about the verbal section. I haven't taken a gmat practice exam, but from my SATs, I think the verbal will be a problem. Embarrassingly, I scored around 650 on the verbal, though my SAT II Writing score was in the low 700s with only a little bit of studying.

Again, I don't plan on studying for the GMAT until late 2012. Are you monkeys aware of anything that I can do in the meantime to improve my general reading comprehension and verbal skills? My ideas were: taking a speed reading course, reading A LOT OF difficult material like the Economist, taking an etymology course, etc....

Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks.
