ibankers finance guys.....please help a jew......

This is a question for current i bankers that have gone through the whole ordeal: Uni, interviews, summer internships, full time analyst, MBA maybe and hopefully a few associates can answer too.

So basically I am a religious orthodox and I am planning on taking the steps to do the traditional ibank route.

IS THIS POSSIBLE FOR A RELIGIOUS ORTHODOX JEW TO PULL OFF?

Yes, you're practically shoved bacon down your throat in finance.... Seriously... I can see how observing shabbat can be a problem but do you really think someone will quiz you about your dietary habits during your interview or that you will starve to death in your office?? Why don't you go into something that's more 9-5 if all you care about is money and are obviously not flexible with your time.

Know two interns at a bank who got fired for that after the 1 week when they said they couldn't show up to work because of it. That's in London though. Also on my desk there are people wearing kippas (sp?) I assume they are pretty religious if they do that, but they work on the trading floor and people don't mind if they leave a tiny bit early. I would see how that could be a pain in the arse in IBD where you work ALL the time. Although you are in NY, I would assume there are more jewish bankers there, so people are more used to your dilemna. Dietary wise, as someone said: WTF? No one will be shoving bacon down your throat. My jewish friend was at my house today for dinner, it wasn't f...ing hard to give her fish instead of pork. Same thing goes to your work environment...

I do wear a "kippah" or little hat on my head (I know most of you are smarter than this esp in NYC, but hey there are a few whatever u wana call em and you know a few probly)I would be willing to take off this head covering during interviews and even during the work day. Not proud of it, but would be willing to.

Pathetic, absolutely pathetic. You would give up all your beliefs for a job to make alot of $$$.

A guy I knew wore a "kippah" all through undergrad, during his internships and he will be doing it as well FT. He's a rockstar, no one cares.
