LSE MSc Finance 2026 intake

Hey, does anyone have any info on the requirements to be admitted to the LSE MSc Finance course?

In particular regarding the GMAT. For some context, I go to a strong semi-target uni in the UK studying finance and have 12 months of professional experience (placement year). I did Maths A-level as well, so just wondering how necessary it is for me to sit the exam?

For the LSE MSc Finance program, here’s what you need to know based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. GMAT Requirements:

    • The GMAT is optional for LSE MSc Finance, but it is highly recommended. A strong GMAT score (700+) can significantly strengthen your application, especially if you want to stand out in a competitive pool.
    • While it’s not mandatory, applicants with strong quantitative backgrounds (like yours, with a Maths A-level and finance studies) may still benefit from submitting a GMAT score to showcase their aptitude.
  2. Academic Background:

    • A first-class degree or equivalent is typically required. Your strong semi-target university and finance degree align well with their expectations.
  3. Work Experience:

    • Work experience is considered a bonus but not a strict requirement. Your 12 months of professional experience (placement year) will likely enhance your profile.
  4. Additional Notes:

    • LSE values a strong quantitative foundation, so your Maths A-level and finance background are advantageous.
    • If you’re confident in your quantitative skills and have a solid academic record, the GMAT might not be strictly necessary, but it could still give you an edge.

In summary, while the GMAT isn’t mandatory, scoring well on it (700+) could bolster your application and make you more competitive. If you have the time and resources, it’s worth considering.
