LSE MSc Finance Part-time?

Hello,

I have a question in regards to pursuing a MSc in Finance. I've got an offer (after SA gig) to join an Ops group at a BB (think GS/JPM/MS) in London. The role is S&T Middle Office/client facing operational side.

Coming from a low income background, no connections and semi-target uni in UK (more of non-target for banks) I just couldn't land a FO role. Ideally I want to work in PE/VC in 3-4-5 years time. I know how impossible this is, but I will give it a try.

I'm wondering if pursuing a part-time masters in finance at LSE is worth it. The cost (~£37k) is spread over 2 years, and I will be earning a decent salary while working at Ops. I'm just not sure if pursuing a part-time degree at LSE is looked the same way by employers. My goal would be to land a summer internship in IBD before the second year or even after graduation (the summer after the second year). Do you think banks will reject me if they see I'm working in Ops and studying for a MSc at the time time rather than taking a year out to do it 'properly'?

An alternative would be to apply for Oxford MFE after 1 year at the job or full-time LSE MSc Fin, or maybe another equally respected masters like Bocconi, St.Gallen, etc.

*Someone who made the jump Ops -> IBD at my bank said that once I'm in the company full-time pursuing a MSc could be looked upon as 'not investing enough in your current company' thus not a good strategy to jump from Ops to IBD (at least at the same company).

Thank you all,

Opsguy
