LSE MSc Finance vs. HEC, SSE, St. Gallen
Hey,
I have an unconditional offer to do MSc Finance (full-time) at LSE. This is a great program (50-60 students accepted out of 1800-2000), but is the LSE/London cost justified? I should say that I was also accepted to HEC for MSc in Financial Economics, and will also get (99% sure) SSE and St. Gallen offers for similar programs. I'm doing my CFA (Level II - June, 2010) and my goal is to get an Asset Management/hedge funds/consulting job. I'm not too big on IB. Do you think paying for LSE is worth it or should I settle for a cheap alternative that is nearly as good?

LSE is your best bet if you want to finance in London.

Interesting dilemma! From what i have heard, LSE seems to the overwhelming favorite when it comes to Finance. So if i were you, would definitely go for LSE. I am also in the process of applying to MSC Finance programs (already got rejected from LSE). I don't know anything about schools outside of London and since you're applying to some, can you please provide some input on St Gallen Master Finance. I am thinking of applying there, but given i don't speak german and don't know anything about the school, I am a bit cautious. How are the job prospects? reputation?

If you dont speak German, St. Gallen will not suit you. All firms that recruit at campus give their presentations in German, and German is the language spoken in all the network events. Guess which language they require for applicants...
In contrast, Bocconi, RSM or SSE have a fair amount of London teams or HR reps visiting campus.
This may be because the Swiss and German financial markets are big enough to absorb all St. Gallen students, whereas the Italian, Dutch or Swedish are not, so their students are more likely to be looking into London positions.
