MIT MSF Chances/Question

Ok so I am interested in possibly getting my MsF in a year or two and the goal is MIT. Ill be working in the Boston area in M&A advisory from a top 50 school (state) and had a 3.8 in Finance. My question is how should I go about taking the prereq suggested classes for MIT ? I took stat in college but took Calc 2 Ap (got a 5) in high school so no other math in college. Since I'd be working full-time i would prefer online but from where and is it really worse than in class ?

Sure. A couple options to fill out the engineering math suite:

-Calculus III (Multivariable) -Linear Algebra -Differential Equations

All of these are available through netmath.uiuc.edu. Illinois isn't quite The University of Chicago, but it's good enough for most programs. I also think a local state school would suffice too. There might be some concerns about course QA at a community college, but MIT would be familiar with community colleges in the Boston area.

On the MIT MFin website they tell you which subjects you should know and at what level you should know them. They even tell you should you know X subject on the level of "Y" book chapters 1-3

http://mitsloan.mit.edu/academic/mfin/curriculum.php

It is under the "Suggested Mathematical Background" section

Also here are math problems you should know how to solve according to MIT

Problems: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7804081/Self-Assessment.pdf Solutions: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7804081/Self-Assessment-solutions.pdf

Edit: I don't know if the subjects should be on your transcript or you just need to know them. You should ask MIT

Such easy math, but so difficult to get into the program...oh well

In the 2012 class, some students did not formally meet all the math pre-reqs but were still admitted. However, this was more of the exception, and those students did not have a tough time with the math.
